Are you new to online dating and not quite ready to invest your hard-earned money with online singles dating websites? Most singles are a little skeptical of forking over membership fees when they really aren’t sure a)what they get for their money and b) whether it will be the right fit for them. Fortunately, there are 4 amazing free singles dating websites you should try and I’ve scouted them each for you!
Free Singles Dating Websites
Chances are, if you’re online dating, you have a profile on OkCupid! Ok Cupid was launched by a bunch of Harvard guys (think Facebook, but for us single folks.). According to Wikipedia, OkCupid said that it had 3.5 million active users as of September 2010. In Feb 2011, 1.3 million unique visitors hit up OkCupid for love. My point? There are a ton of people using OkCupid and about half of them are relatively normal! Ok, in all seriousness, once you weed out the fetishists and hookers, there are a lot of high quality people looking for love and relationships on OkCupid. There are also plenty of people looking for a hook-up, but if that’s your thing, then I encourage you to go forth and date! I’m a fairly monogamous dater, but if you’re looking for couples or people looking for adventure, you can find that on OkCupid as well.
Plenty of Fish
Or, as those of us in the know call it, POF. I’d rank Plenty of Fish as a little more of a “date” versus “relationship” site, but I have a good friend who had a lot of successful dates through Plenty of Fish. I think it is the same as with any free online dating site—you have to weed out the creeps and weirdos before you can find the nice, decent, and intelligent folks. POF keeps itself free by posting ads on the site, which can sometimes get annoying, but I understand why they need to do it in order to keep the site free for those of us who are single and ready to mingle.

What can I say? Tinder is my guilty pleasure. I’d love to say that I’ve met anyone from it, but listen, it’s a really fun tool when you’re bored or looking to hook-up. I’m more of a relationship kinda girl, as I said above, but if you’re looking for a Mr. Right for Tonight, Tinder’s the place for you to go. Believe it or not, I believe Tinder can be a serious online dating tool, but you have to put up photos that show off your best side (versus a bikini or topless photo). If you’ve had success with Tinder, I’d love to hear about it so please post your story in the comments below! If you’re Jewish and want to try something new, check out JSwipe.
Listen, the title says it all. But, the chat rooms are worth a visit for a little laughter and an opportunity to see who is out there in the date hookup universe. I was on this website for a few years and had some fun chats with guys I met on it. I can’t recall if I ever followed through on any of the dates, but it might work better for you!
I also want to give a shout out to many of the so-called pay sites, like SinglesWarehouse, Match, JDate, Christian Mingle, etc. While you need to pay to be active on these sites, you can still join without having to pay. You can create a profile for free and then decide if you want to invest in paying for a month or more.
My recommendation is to balance it out. Create a couple of profiles on the free sites, but also explore the pay sites. You’ll increase your odds of meeting a great girl or guy!
